Radiotherapy Support

During radiation treatment the skin is subjected to significant trauma over the targeted area which may suffer from excoriation and skin irritation. It is important to prepare the skin before the radiation treatment and maintain the skin during the treatment so that the skin is in the best possible condition to cope with trauma during the treatment process and resulting from the radiation.
PRIOR TO RADIATION TREATMENT:
1. Cleansing: NS 21 Sensitive Skin Cleanser
It is important that the skin is gently cleansed and moisturised without the use of harsh surfactants or soaps, which strip away natural skin oils, and which are not pH balanced. NS 21 Sensitive Skin Cleanser is 100% emollient and pH balanced. It can be used as a wash (with water) or as a cleanser (without water, no-rinse formula). Suitable for use on face (no tear formula), hands and body.

Use NS 21 Sensitive Skin Cleanser to cleanse and moisturise the skin, day and night. (This cleanser is free from petro-chemicals, parabens and perfumes and will not adversely affect the radiation treatment)
2. Skin Treatment with Intensive Moisturisation: NS 21 Skin Repair Treatment
It is important to keep the skin well hydrated and moisturised. NS 21 Skin Repair Treatment contains a rich complex of natural active ingredients to help repair skin damage (especially the loss of essential nutrients during radiation) and stimulate skin renewal by providing key nutrients to the skin. NS 21 Skin Repair Treatment also increases blood supply to the area and supports the skin’s immune system, both of which are crucial for maintaining healthy skin, that is under stress.

Apply NS 21 Skin Repair Treatment to affected area, two to three times a day, to intensely moisturise the skin
SKIN PREPARATION ON THE DAYS OF RADIATION TREATMENTS:
1. It is very important that on the day of radiation treatment that the skin is well cleansed but not moisturised with any creams or lotions.
2. Aloe Vera gel and spray can be applied to the skin after the treatment. Aloe Vera is known for its soothing and healing properties. It also has a lovely cooling effect. Plunkett’s 99% Pure Aloe Vera is certified organic and 99% pure.

IN-BETWEEN RADIATION TREATMENTS:
Use NS 21 Sensitive Skin Cleanser to cleanse the skin and NS 21 Skin Repair Treatment two to three times a day to moisturise and restore the skin

POST RADIATION TREATMENT:
Use NS 21 Sensitive Skin Cleanser to cleanse the skin and NS 21 Skin Repair Treatment two to three times a day to moisturise and restore the skin. Continue for at least 3 weeks as the skin cycle (the process where a new skin cell is formed at the deepest layer of the epidermis and works its way up to the surface of the skin) is between 14 and 28 days, depending on how many cells are damaged or destroyed during the treatment and also on the patient’s age.

ONGOING LONG-TERM CONDITIONING:
When the skin has been restored it is recommended that the skin’s condition is maintained with on-going use of NS 21 Sensitive Skin Cleanser and either NS Dry Skin Moisturiser or NS Extra Dry Skin Moisturiser. NS 21 Skin Repair Treatment can be used in place of an NS Moisturiser if the skin is extremely dry.

Please note that a patch test should be done, on the inside of the arm, before general application of NS 21 Skin Repair Treatment as there can be a “tingling” sensation with very sensitive skin. If this is the case, then NS 21 Skin Repair Treatment can be diluted on a 1:1 basis with NS 21 Sensitive Skin Cleanser before application to reduce concentration.

If there are any adverse reactions when using any of the NS products, please stop using them immediately and consult your doctor.
